Expertise
Joep joined EPPA in January 2024, transferring from the Hague-based public affairs agency IvCB where he was senior director for the past several years. He is a highly practiced consultant with over fourteen years of experience in public affairs, lobbying, public strategy, policy advice, stakeholder management and strategic communications. In his work, he is stimulated by the challenge of finding the balance between what is desired and what is achievable and translating clients' wishes into smart strategies with maximum return.
Joep's experience in public affairs stretches far back. Before joining IvCB, Joep was founder and for several years managing director of public affairs agency MagnifEye. In the preceding years he held (senior) public affairs positions within various public affairs firms, was department head of the public affairs department of the municipality of Amsterdam and public affairs advisor at a university. He was also involved with a national political party for several years and began his career as a civil servant at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
Joep has built an extensive network at all levels of government. From European and national level to regional and local level. He has extensive experience working for large multinationals and NGOs, national companies and organizations, industry and sector associations, governments and start-ups and scale ups. Joep has a broad experience, but his expertise lies mainly in the digital economy and tech sector, the housing and real estate sector, the (renewable) energy sector, the chemical industry, the labor market, the financial sector and projects related to mobility and sustainability.
Background
Joep studied Dutch Law - and International and European Law - at the University of Groningen. He also studied business administration at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. He also obtained a postgraduate degree in public affairs at Leiden University.
Personal
Joep is an avid water sportsman, winter sportsman and enjoys playing tennis, golf and football. He is a big supporter of Max Verstappen (Formula 1) and his favourite football club Roda JC. Furthermore Joep loves cooking and good food. Joep is also a music lover and enjoys painting and reading. He has a keen interest in other cultures and likes to travel far.
