René van der Steeg (1966) holds a master degree in Policy and Administration in International Organizations from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). He also did a Post-Academic Course in Association Management (European certificate) at the Vrije Universiteit (VU, Amsterdam). He was lecturer at the Post Academic Education of the VU Amsterdam on the topic of Public Affairs.
Immediately after finishing his studies in September 1993, René started as Secretary International Affairs for Royal MKB-Nederland. MKB-Nederland is the largest employers’ organization in the Netherlands and promotes the interests over 125,000 entrepreneurs. His major tasks were developing SME-friendly export policies, coordinating EU-affairs, representing MKB-Nederland in various national and European bodies. He was responsible for building, expanding and maintaining various relation networks in industry, government, politics and all other stakeholders on national and European level.
René joined Ernst & Young Consulting (EYC) in 1998. As a managing consultant, he was asked to further professionalize the Issue Management and Public Affairs practice and opened dedicated EYC IMPA offices in The Hague and Brussels. EYC merged with Cap Gemini in 2000. René became label manager at CGE&Y Issue Management & Public Affairs and Communication.
Over the years René has become an expert in developing and implementing issue management & public affairs strategies on both European and national level for various clients. His clients vary from large multinationals in FMCG to SME sector organizations.
Since 2004, René is partner and senior consultant at EPPA.
